Mistral Europeans - Welcome to Mondello
    Posted On:  12/05/2003 17:49:48
Welcome to Mondello - The Albaria Sailing Club is proud to host the 2003 Mistral European Championships which will be held from the 5th to the 14th of May.

More and more competitors are arriving at the beautiful bay of  Mondello to find perfect conditions today   with warm temperatures around 22 degrees, light breeze around 8-10 knots and mostly sunny sky. 30 nations are expected to take part in this years event.

The atmosphere at the beach is relaxed; competitors are enjoying the warm weather and sea after rather cold conditions at the Princess Sophia Trophy and Hyeres Week

Meeting point for days and nights is the chill out area, Café del Mare style, with the beach bar right at the waterfront.

As the Europeans 2003 is not only the qualifier for many nations for the Pre-Olympics in Athens but also is taking place early in the European regatta season, competitors are having to face double pressure.

The level of entry is rated very high, all the windsurfing greats like women’s Italian Gold Medallist at the Sydney Olympics Games 2000 Alessandra Sensini and Silver Medallist Amelie Lux from Germany, as well as Men’s 1996 Olympic Gold Medallist Nikos Kaklamanakis from Greece and 2002 World Champion Gal Fridman from Israel are getting ready to battle for the medals at Mondello.

Competitors are looking forward to the start of racing on May 8th, after 3 days of measurement starting today, Monday May 5th. The opening ceremony is on the 7th at 1900hrs. As well as the European Championship, Albaria is also the host of the “World Festival On The Beachâ€, which includes an  International Beach Volleyball Competition (8th to 18th May);  Men an Women Windsurfing Match Race (Mistral One Design); Kite Surfing  Freestyle Competition (16th May) and last but not least many evening entertainments such as the New Jazz Festival and an Italian House Party featuring DJ Claudio Coccoluto from Roma !  This is certainly going to be an event to remember… too bad you couldn’t make it!
