Invitation to brands to participate in 2004 ISAF Evaluation Event
    Posted On:  12/01/2004 19:25:06

Following the hugely successful first part of the Olympic Windsurfing Equipment Evaluation Event in Cadiz in September 2003, the application form for designs to be entered into the second phase, in Torbole, Italy, is now online.  The objective of the Equipment Evaluation Event is to identify suitable equipment to be selected for use at the 2008 Olympic Regatta, Beijing.

Application Forms must be returned to the ISAF Secretariat by 1 February at the very latest. Entry criteria for the second phase of the Evaluation Event is the same as previously published on the ISAF website in 2003 and is available by clicking HERE http://www.sailing.org/technical/App_Windsurfing04.pdf

As well as the design application form, the application form for Member National Authorities who wish to send sailors to take part in the Evaluation Event  is also available online and can be downloaded HERE  http://www.sailing.org/Article_content.asp?ArticleID=6012  MNA Application Forms should be submitted by 1 February 2004.

Evaluation trials have proven to be a valuable tool in assisting the ISAF in making decisions on equipment for future Olympics. Both the 49er and the Tornado were chosen in this manner, and last year the ISAF held Evaluation Trials for the new Youth Multihull.

In order to achieve the best results, ISAF will choose a balance of men and women sailors from a wide range of weights, geographic regions and disciplines to participate in the Evaluation Event. Current Olympic class sailors, professionals and Formula class sailors will be invited to help evaluate the equipment in a wide range of conditions including heavy air and light air sailing, course racing and slalom and speed tests.

After the deadline of 1 February, the Evaluation Panel will make the final selection of sailors dependent on the number of boards entered in the Trials. The final list of sailors chosen will be circulated to MNA's by 1 March to ensure enough time to make travel arrangements.

For further details on the Olympic Windsurfing Equipment Evaluation Event itself, the details of the design entry form, or the MNA sailor applications, please contact Sebastian Edmonds at the ISAF Secretariat at mailtbas@isaf.co.uk or view the ISAF Olympic Equipment Evaluation Event information on the ISAF website.
