Mistral Europeans - Lise Vidal takes women title
    Posted On:  14/06/2004 22:47:25

Showdown on the final day for the women between Spanish Blanca Manchon and French Lise Vidal.

In Women fleet, Blanka Manchon yesterday retired from the race wanting to safe the forces for the next run. Moreover, her oponent Lise Vidal haven’t been showing a good sailing either. Her 20th place was hopeless for the gold medal. Another French, Faustine Merret became closer to the top three making girls more stressed. Everything resolved on Saturday, in the day of the last chances to get the title.

Today, the sailors were sailing very unsteady . This ups and downs turned the overall situation. Manchon lost one shift on the upwind and couldn’t catch up again to French. But Vidal lost the control in the last race and her smile wouldn’t be so shiny if Spanish came two positions better.

The gold medal of the Europeans belongs to blond hair French girl now for the first time in her career. “This victory helped me to belive that olympic medal can be mine – commented Vidal. “I used a lot my intuition. I think it was the best way to sail well. French team can celebrate the bronze medal of Faustine Merret who won the last race beating Sensini who has been dominating the women fleet over the last years.
