Mistral Youth Worlds, Sopot, Poland - 6-14 August 2005
    Posted On:  17/08/2005 23:58:35

Only one point separated gold and silver in the Mistral Youth Men's fleet!  Both Lukasz Grodzicki from Poland and Shahar Zubari from Israel won three each of nine races overall but Lukasz managed to overcome his close rival to take the Championship title with a total of 25 points.  Yet again, Shahar, second last year, was pipped at the post.  He was third at this year's Youth Europeans.

Pierre Le Coq from France was third but on 54 points, with Nimrod Mashaih, another Isreali team member, fourth at the youth Europeans, also fourth at this event with 60 points.  Kwok Po Ma from Hong Kong came fifth, sadly one place down on his 2004 performance.

In the ladies, Zofia Klepacka from Poland, showed an outstanding performance in her home country, scoring a perfect 8 points overall to take first place.  Israeli Mayaan Davidovich was second with Anne Sophie Le Page of France a close third - she was third last year too!

The President of the IWA Vincenzo Pottino commented on the event and said "An event characterized not only by the number of athletes, coaches and nations taking place but also by their technical qualities", he then went on to say "The arrival of 45 new athletes who are participating in the under 15s Aloha - Techno class together with a large fleet of Mistral (186) proves that this sport is welcomed by young people.".

Marcus Steininger - the new manager of  Boards and More who distribute Mistral  - said "even if the mistral class has lost its Olympic status it remains to be the most used board throughout the world. Our company, as known, is especially interested in products which are best sellers and from this year will support with even more commitment the interest in the Mistral One Design, in which the new model is made by Cobra and distributed by us, through importers to shops in 45 nations, and at the same time keeping up with other products."
