    Final day of races at the World Festival on the Beach 2006

    The Sicily Grand Prix closed today after two races for the Mistral boards and three for the RS:X boards, the Sicily Grand Prix is the race that closes the World Festival on the Beach program. The athletes who took place in this race were divided in two and raced with a wind of around 5 metres coming from a eastern direction.

    In the One Design race Marco Casagrande and Alessandro Alberti had good races who were racing behind the Hong Kong team, the boys came in sixth and eighth in the final results making them the first two Italians and Europeans. Thanks to these results and that of Valentina Failla, who was the third woman in the Sicily Grand Prix and in the overall results, Italy came in second place taking over Israel and coming in behind Hong Kong in the Nation Cup.

    Italy came in second place also last year with Belli dell’Isca – Baffetti who came in behind France with its world champion Huguet.

    Korea came in third place knocking Israel down to fourth place.

    The winner of the Sicily Grand Prix on the Mistral board was Kwok Fai Cheng winning all three races held. After taking first place in the European Championships, he took the best overall athlete in the Sicily Grand Prix beating his team mate King Yan Chan, and following him was still the Hong Kong team,with Kwok Po Ma.

    The last race in the program was won by the Chinese girl Wai Kei Chan, the queen of the overall results, followed by the Korean girl Ji Jung Hwa and the Italian Valentina Failla.

    In the RS:X race held today the victory went to Fabian Heidegger from Caldaro, he won three out of four races. In second place was Dario Baffetti who came in before Andrea Beverino. In the women’s category on the new Olympic table the young athlete from Marsala Laura Linares was first followed by Martina Fisco.
