An annual event, the 29th SIM-Singapore Open Windsurfing Championship is the biggest event on the Singapore windsurfing calendar which sees top local windsurfers being pitted against the best in the region. Every year, the event attracts competitors from Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia including top windsurfers from the regions with the likes of seasoned Olympic campaigner and multiple Asian Games and SEA Games gold medalist Oka Sulaksana, former ISAF World Youth champion Ho Chi Ho and 2007 SEA Games gold medalist Phanuthat Ruamsap.

Held from 8 to 10 January 2010 at the National Service Resort and Country Sea Sports Centre, next year's event is expected to draw more than 140 competitors from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, China, and South Korea, including the Singapore YOG squad for Windsurfing, with many using the event to prepare for the Techno 293 Asian Championships in January 2010 and also the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in August 2010.

To grow the sport in Singapore, especially among the youths, and to raise the level of windsurfing in Singapore in the long term, we are also co-hosting the Singapore Institute of Management Windsurfing Championships (SIMWC) alongside the Singapore Open Windsurfing Championship. The SIMWC is open to students from the 4 local universities, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University and Singapore Institute of Management, as well as secondary students from the Ministry of Education's Sea Sports Centre.
